CALAIS – T. William “Bill” Caswell, 81, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2007, with his family by his side, at his home. Bill was born July 19, 1926, in Milltown, New Brunswick, son of the late Hugh and Mabel (Johnson) Caswell. He graduated from Milltown High School, Class of 1943. After graduation, Bill entered the Canadian Army. He graduated from the University of New Brunswick in 1950 with a degree in forestry. Bill worked as an engineer for Georgia Pacific, Baileyville, for 38 years, retiring in 1989. He married Ann (Crowley) Smith, Sept. 28, 1973, in Calais. Bill was a longtime member of the Calais Lions Club, C.R.H. Seniority, Georgia Pacific Quarter Century Club, a 45-year member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 48, Milltown, New Brunswick, and a 50 plus year member of Victoria Lodge AF & AM, St. Stephen, New Brunswick. He was a past member of St. Croix Bowling Club and St. Stephen Curling Club. Bill enjoyed dancing, woodworking, crossword puzzles, playing computer games, entertaining and holding picnics and BBQ’s at his cottage on Keene’s Lake, and will be remembered for his wine making. He was predeceased by his first wife, Evelyn (Burgess) Caswell; his sister, Priscilla Johnson; stepmother, Marguerite Caswell; and a nephew, Kenneth Johnson. Surviving are his loving wife, Ann Caswell; two children, Fred Caswell and his companion, Crystal, of Flume Ridge, New Brunswick, and Sharon Caswell and her companion, John, of Oak Hill, New Brunswick; three stepchildren, Larry Smith Jr. and his wife, Belinda, of Calais, Jo-Anne Bartlett and her companion, Shane, of Baileyville, and Gary Smith and his wife, Amy, of Champlain, N.Y.; a stepsister, Kathi Despres and her husband, Joe, of St. John, New Brunswick; a brother-in-law, Reed Johnson of Calais; 18 grandchildren, Tiffany, Shane, Dianna, Kristie, Desiree, Sarah, Ashleigh, Rebekah, Raycheal, Adam, Brian, Krystal, Melissa, Kevin, Scott, Jesse, Amber and Jeremiah; seven great-grandchildren, Amiyah, Caleb, Riley, Katryna, Donovan, Braden and Kathleyn; several nieces and nephews; and his faithful canine companion, Sasha. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor Bob Hinton officiating.
