MILFORD – Taylan Matthew Speed, infant son of Matthew Speed and Darcy Madden of Milford, died unexpectedly from complications with heart surgery May 13, 2006. He was born April 17, 2006, in Mass General Hospital, Boston, Mass. After fighting a long hard battle with VACTERL syndrome and recuperating from a major esophagus surgery in Boston, Mass., he was transferred to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where he underwent open-heart surgery. This is where he and his family spent the last few weeks of his life. He was a strong little boy and had to overcome so much in his short time here on earth and will be greatly missed by all who loved him. He was a fighter, right up until the end, and even the doctors and hospital staff were amazed at how strong he was. He is survived by his parents, Matt and Darcy of Milford; maternal grandparents, Randy and Julie Madden of Milford; paternal grandparents, Gary and Melanie Speed of Howland; uncles, Jr. Madden, Nate and Tyler Speed and Jason Lowe; aunts, Jeni Cunningham, Jessica Lowe and Sarah Martin; many cousins, great-aunts and great-uncles, great-grandparents and friends. Taylan, your Dad and I have never wanted anything more in our entire lives than to have you. We thank you for the opportunity to know and love you and you will always forever be in our hearts and minds. You’ll always be our little “big” boy and we miss you terribly! Friends may call noon-2 p.m. Wednesday at the Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town, where a celebration of Taylan’s life will be held 2 p.m. Burial will follow at the Cardville Cemetery on the Cards Ridge Road, Greenbush.
