HAMPDEN – Terrence P. Coffin Sr., 69, husband for 42 years of Carleen (Towle) Coffin, died unexpect-edly Sept. 19, 2005, at his Hampden home. He was born Sept. 23, 1935, in Presque Isle, the son of Nathaniel W. and June (McGowan) Coffin. Terry was a very hardworking man. He believed in always making the customer happy. He loved his wife and family very much. He enjoyed visiting with them. Terry was a 3rd generation owner of Coffin’s General Store in Portage Lake, with his wife, Carleen, for more than 20 years. He was very active with the schools, having been chairman of the school board for several years. Terry also ran a successful flying service. He obtained his pilot’s license as a teenager. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and spent time in England. He retired in 1987, and moved to Hampden to be closer to his children. He worked for several companies after his retirement from the store. He worked for Dead River in Bucksport, Maine Armored Car, Brinks, The Birches in Rockwood, and Norumbega Health Systems, and Affiliated Labs, to name a few. The last few summers, he and Carleen enjoyed spending time at their camp in Rockwood on Moosehead Lake. He loved hunting and fishing. He was a member of Pioneer Lodge AF & AM No. 72 in Ashland; he obtained his York Rites and was a member of Anah Shrine Temple. He is survived by his wife, Carleen, and children, Cynthia and husband, Lester Lebel of Gorham, Terrence Jr. and wife, Myra Coffin of Gray, Nathaniel Coffin of Bangor, Elizabeth Coffin of Hampden; grandchildren, Terrilyn Lebel of Scarborough, Kristina Dwyer of Brewer, Taryn and Bryce Coffin of Portland, Katy Coffin of Bangor; a sister, Judith Rattray of Brunswick and a special niece, Sue Rattray Irish. He was predeceased by his parents and his first wife, Mary Lou (Donahue) Coffin. A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Shriners Hospitals, care of Anah Shriners, P.O. Box 735, Bangor, ME 04402-0735. May you rest in peace and the pain be no more.
