NEWBURGH – Thelma Mace, 91, passed away Feb. 20, 2007, in Bangor, only 24 days from her 92nd birthday. Thelma was born March 16, 1915, the first baby born at Genny Brown Hospital, Mars Hill, the daughter of Webb and Dora Tapley. She grew up in Blaine and after graduating in 1934 from Aroostook Central Institute, worked at Hussy’s Department Store. Thelma married Harold Mace July 29, 1937, and they moved to Bainbridge, N.Y. After the birth of their son, Carl; and daughter, Helen, they moved to Syracuse, N.Y. They retired in 1988 to Maine, a very special place for both of them, filled with many happy memories. Thelma was predeceased by her sister, Helen Greene of Bangor; brother, Malcolm Tapley of Newburgh; and husband, Harold. Survivors include her son, Carl of Royal Palm Beach, Fla.; daughter, Helen of Portland, Ore.; and son, Robert of Newburgh; plus several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Thelma was an extremely positive, giving person, who saw only the good in people. A celebration of her wonderful life will be held at a private family ceremony.
