OAKFIELD – Thelma Mae Crandall, 91, passed away July 3, 2005, at home. She was born Feb. 28, 1914, in Linneus, daughter of Frank and Pearl (Rideout) Hamilton. She attended Houlton schools. She married Asa Crandall in Oakfield, where they ran a dairy farm for many years. The last 27 years, Thelma lived at Pine Grove Terrace in Oakfield. Thelma was a member of the Oakfield Senior Citizens and the R.S.V.P. for many years, where she received many awards for her volunteer work. She spent endless hours knitting and crocheting and doing many other crafts. Nobody knows how many children’s hands were covered by her mittens. She attended the Oakfield Baptist Church. Thelma leaves behind three children, Arthur Briggs and his wife, Cathy, Shirley Drew and her husband, Peter, of Oakfield, and Margaret Hardy of Portland; and also a daughter-in-law, Isabelle Cail of Naples, Fla.; six grandchildren, Michael Crandall and his wife, Janelle, of Limington, Holly Fitch and her husband, Corey, of Naples, Elizabeth Hoyt and her husband, Dan, of Jackman, Tammy Kinney and her husband, Bobby, of Smyrna Mills, Heidi Drew of South Portland, Crystal Folsom and her husband, John, of Linneus; 10 great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Nicholas Crandall, Maura Grace Fitch, Tyler, Jack and Sarah Hoyt, Ria and Morgan Kinney, Alissa Brianne Drew, and Colton Arthur Folsom. She also leaves several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; one very special niece, Becky Sanders and her husband, Wally, of Oakfield. She will also be greatly missed by all her many friends at Pine Grove Terrace. She was predeceased by her husband, Asa; and son, Robert; two brothers, Byron and Allan; and one sister, Phyllis Martin. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, at the Oakfield Cemetery, with the Rev. Kirby Rushton, officiating. Rev. Rushton was a great comfort to Thelma during her illness. In lieu of flowers those who wish may donate in her memory to the Oakfield Baptist Church. We wish to thank God for sharing Thelma with everyone for the last 91 years.
