FARMINGTON – Thelma N. Polland, 96, of Rangeley and Steuben, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007, at Franklin Memorial Hospital, Farmington. She was born, May 30, 1910, in Turner, a daughter of Esther (Allen) Dow. She attended local schools. She worked at the Turner Rug Factory for several years before moving to Rangeley in 1950, where she worked at Pleasant Island Camps, as a pastry chef. In 1959 she bought the Oven restaurant in Oquossoc and operated it until 1964, when she moved to Steuben with her husband, Phillip. While living on the coast, Thelma worked in Milbridge as a cook at the Frankenstein Restaurant, and later at the naval base in Winter Harbor for 19 years, retiring at the age of 80. She was a former member of the D.A.R. and enjoyed bingo, cribbage and crocheting. She is survived by a son, Byron Hannon of Marathon, Fla.; a daughter, Barbara Quimby of Rangeley; two step-children, Evangeline Dunham of Rangeley and Clinton Polland of Florida; two daughters-in-law, Mary Lou Hannon of Alfred and Donna Palmer of Livermore; grandchildren, Lucinda Hannon of Richmond, Teri Cherrets of Monmouth, Robert Hannon of Benton Harbor, Mich., Tammy Kelley of Montague, Mich., Sherry Field of Minot and David Hannon of Florida; eight stepgrandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-great-grand-daughter. She was predeceased by her husband, Phillip; two sons, Allen and Ernest Hannon; a stepson, Phillip Polland Jr.; grandsons, Allen Hannon Jr. and Thomas Hannon; a granddaughter, Deidra Quimby. Memorial services will be held in the spring with the time and date to be announced by Wiles Remembrance Center, 42 Weld St., Dixfield. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Dixfield.
