BANGOR – Theresa Adel McCarthy, 73, went home to be with God, Nov. 20, 2007. She was born July 9, 1934, in Worcester, Mass. She was predeceased by her parents, Pasquale and Theresa (Lopardo) D’Elia. Theresa was raised in Worcester, Mass., and was the youngest of 10 children and the beloved matriarch of six. At Worcester High School of Commerce, she was the class pianist and throughout her life had a great love for music. She married Alfred Vincent McCarthy, April 12, 1958, and they shared 45 years of love and companionship. They were blessed with six children, Mark McCarthy and his wife, Erin, of Baltimore, Theresa McCarthy and her husband, Peter Chandler, of Alexandria, Va., Margaret McCarthy of Alexandria, Va., Karen McCarthy of Dover, N.H., Laurie-Ann McCarthy of Washington, D.C., and Christopher McCarthy of Bangor. She was predeceased by her husband, Alfred McCarthy; two infant sons, Sean and Clarence; two brothers, Joseph D’Elia and Ralph D’Elia; and two sisters, Rose Palumbo and Rita McGlamery. She is survived by four sisters, Camella Dintini, Ann Iandoli and Mary Biscotti, all of Worcester, Mass., and Louise Graziano of Mentor, Ohio; and a brother, Charles D’Elia of Worcester, Mass. She will be missed by her five grandchildren, Matthew Chandler, D’Elia Chandler, Lillian McCarthy, Cormac McCarthy and Teague McCarthy. Theresa devoted her life to raising her six children and supported them in their life pursuits. She loved family gatherings and always had plenty of desserts prepared to ensure the family stayed gathered around the dining room table. When all the children were grown, Theresa began to work outside the home at Porteous clothing store at the Bangor Mall, which allowed her to blend her love of fashion and shopping. Theresa was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and had special devotions to Saint Therese, the Little Flower of Jesus, and Saint Anthony of Padua. She shared her faith with her children and together, the love she had for family and the love and faith she had in God provided a great support to the family. Mom, we love you. Friends and relatives may call 4-6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor.
