VEAZIE – Theresa M. Kelly, 81, passed away peacefully Feb. 28, 2008, surrounded by her family at her home. She was born May 8, 1926, in Bangor, the daughter of George A. and Martha T. (McHale) Kelly. Theresa graduated from St. Mary’s Grammar School and finished high school in New York. She then graduated from St. Joseph School of Nursing, Yonkers, N.Y., and was employed as a staff nurse before becoming a Sister of Mercy in Tarrytown, N.Y. She then moved to Baltimore and was on the nursing staff of Johns Hopkins Hospital. In 1953 Ther-esa returned home to Bangor to support her father in the care of her mother, who had special physical needs and to care for her younger siblings. During these years, Theresa was on the nursing staff at St. Joseph Hospital, Bangor. She was a faithful communicant of St. Mary’s Parish. Her ministries at St. Mary’s included being a Eucharistic minister, greeter at funerals, prayer presider for funeral vigil services and she participated in the prayer and Bible study groups. She was in the first class of hospice volunteers at Eastern Maine Medical Center, was a volunteer at Ecumenical Food Cupboard, Dorothy Day Soup Kitchen, Bangor Area Homeless Shelter and to many individuals confined to their homes. Theresa reached out with love and empathy, kindness and sympathy, especially to the dying, sick, hungry and homeless. Her heart sensed their pain and their hurt became her mission to help alleviate their suffering. Whether nursing, listening or comforting, Theresa brought a peaceful presence and the love of God to all. Surviving are one brother, Roland Kelly of Bangor; and four sisters, Frances Murray and her husband, Charles, of Indialantic, Fla., Helen Colford, Corena Kelly and Margaret Kelly, all of Bangor; many nieces, nephews and cousins, and many dear and special friends. She was predeceased by her parents; and three brothers, Lawrence in 1996, Patrick in 2006 and Father Anthony Kelly, SCJ in 2007. Family and friends may visit 3-7 p.m. Monday, March 3, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be concelebrated 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bangor, with the Rev. Thomas Lequin, pastor, principal celebrant and the Rev. Rudolph Leveille, the Rev. Cle-ment Thibodeau and the Rev. Thomas Farley, concelebrants. Burial at Mount Pleasant Cath-olic Cemetery, Bangor, will be in the spring. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Holy Spirit Church Building Fund, 545 East Commerce St., P.O. Box 424, Hernando, MS 38632.
