BANGOR – Thomas Francis Davis Sr., 87, died Feb. 18, 2008, surrounded by his loving family at his home. He was born June 20, 1920, in Bangor, son of Hugh and Katherine (Russell) Davis. Tom was a graduate of John Bapst High School and attended Maine School of Commerce, now Husson College. He was a fourth generation farmer at the Davis Farm of Veazie and Stillwater Avenue. His beloved fields were once filled with Holstein cattle and later developed into the Bangor Mall and surrounding businesses. In 1993 a stroke prevented him from continuing to farm, but his farming legacy continues with his son, Tom Jr. Tom was an avid sports enthusiast. He was a fixture at Bangor High School and John Bapst High School football and basketball games, as well as a devoted Red Sox and Patriots fan. He was a communicant of St. John’s Catholic Church, Bangor, where he enjoyed singing in the church choir. Tom and his wife, Lillian, also shared many years of square dancing, where he had been president of the Y Squares and also enjoyed many evenings at U.C.T dances. He was a member of the Maine Farm Bureau, Bangor State Fair Association and Holy Name Society. Tom is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 67 years, Lillian (Estey) Davis; one daughter, Rosemary C. Fugel; a son, Thomas F. Davis Jr. and his wife, Donna, all of Bangor. His six grandchildren will miss their “Ganks,” Cynthia Kasprzak and her husband, Michael, of Bangor, Kathleen Kimball and her husband, Michael, of South Portland, Garth Fugel and his wife, Christine, of Glenburn, Tammy Eriksson and her husband, Al, of Corinth, Bobbi Hosmer and her husband, Paul, of Bangor and Kelly Davis and her fiance, George “Adam” Adams, of Bangor; 13 great-grandchildren, Nick, Ian, Mark and Mary Catherine Kasprzak, Griffin and Holly Kimball, Faith and Katie Fugel, Kevin, Matt, Alyssa and Chris Eriksson and Tommy Hosmer; one brother, Leo J. Davis and his wife, Carolyn, of Bangor; nieces and nephews; three brothers-in-law, Irving Estey and his wife, Helen, of Wells, Bernard Estey and his wife, Juanita, of Bangor and Owen Estey and his wife, Joan, of Mapleton; two sisters-in-law, Eva Estey of Brewer and Janet Davis of Eddington. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Donald, Hugh, Edward, Peter, John, Robert and Louis. Tom will be greatly missed. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb 20, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at St. John’s Catholic Church, York Street, Bangor, with the Very Rev. Richard McLaughlin, pastor, celebrant.
