BANGOR – Thomas Francis Spellman Sr., 79, died April 28, 2006, at a Bangor healthcare center. He was born Jan. 29, 1927, in Brewer, the son of Charles Edward and Mary M. (Brown) Spellman. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and employed for many years by the U.S. Postal Service of Bangor. Thomas will be fondly remembered for his Irish gift of gab and sense of humor. He was a walking encyclopedia of baseball and history. Thomas enjoyed spending time with his family and was a mentor and role model for his children and grandchildren. Surviving are his wife, Eleanor (Cameron) Spellman of Bangor; five children, Mary Morse and her husband, Greg, of Kennebunk, Thomas Spellman Jr. and his wife, Carol, of Sanford, Tim Spellman of Bangor, Jeannie Taylor and her husband, Mark, of Bangor, and Paul Spellman of Bangor; seven grandchildren, Amanda and Adam Spellman, Joseph, Patrick, and Katie Taylor, Molly Morse and Gavin Spellman; two brothers, Roland Spellman of Brewer and Richard Spellman of Westbrook; nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Charles Jr. and Robert. Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Monday, May 1, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday, at St. John’s Catholic Church, with the Very Rev. Richard McLaughlin, Pastor, Celebrant. Interment will be in Mount Pleasant Catholic Cemetery. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Bangor Lodge of Elks, 108 Odlin Rd., Bangor following the funeral Mass Tuesday.
