MACHIAS – Tom Wolverton, 59, died unexpectedly April 7, 2008, at his home on Gardner’s Lake. He was born July 16, 1948, in Easton, the son of the late Harold P. and Margaret (Nevers) Wolverton. Tom was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during the Vietnam War. Tom worked as a state police officer for six years. During that time period he received the accommodation of Trooper of the Year. Tom was employed for more than 25 years with the Department of Health and Human Services, working primarily with Child Protective Services. Most recently Tom was employed at Machias Sav-ings Bank. Tom served as selectman for the towns of Machias and Marshfield, and was a past member of Machias Lions Club. Tom’s pastimes included hunting, fishing and golfing. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Stephanie; children, Amy Pelletier and husband, Chris, of Gorham and Sara Butler and husband, Brad, of Palmyra, Va.; four grandsons, whom he adored, Hunter and Haden Pelletier, and Jacob and Zachary Butler; three brothers, Barry Wolverton and his wife, Debbie, of Easton, Richard Wolverton and his wife, Donna, of Colchester, Conn., and Norman Wolverton and his wife, Kathy, of Toronto; one sister, Nancy Tracy of Easton; several nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Cindy Merritt and her husband, Mike, of Hancock; brother-in-law, John Parker of Machias; and many special friends. Tom was predeceased by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bill and Bette Parker, with whom he enjoyed a very special relationship. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, April 11, at Holy Name Catholic Church with Father Mark Nolette presiding. Immediately after the service friends are invited to a time of remembrance at the Inn at Schoppee Farm.
