BANGOR – Thomas M. Shanley, 81, husband of the late Shirley “June” (Robertson) Shanley died peacefully Feb. 3, 2005, at the Maine Veterans Home. He was born Oct. 2, 1923, in Bangor, the son of Thomas J. and Mary (McCart) Shanley. Tom graduated from John Bapst High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served on the Bangor Police Force for 16 years and was retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was a longtime member of the Elks and will be remembered by many for his baseball and basketball coaching which he did for 40 years. He is survived by three children, Walter J. Shanley and wife, Patricia Ann, of Bangor, Thomas D. Shanely of Escondida, Calif. and fianc?e, Lynn Techkey, and Jackie Stewart and husband, Lester, of Colorado Springs. Both of Toms sons are veterans of Vietnam. Also surviving are six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be greatly missed by a longtime special friend, Owen Spaulding. In addition to his wife, June; he was predeceased by a brother, Paul Shanley; and three sisters, Anna Beh, Kathleen Jameson and Josephine Shanley O’Hara. He will be interred in the spring beside his dear wife, June at Mt. Pleasant Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Bangor YMCA, 127 Hammond St., Bangor, ME 04401.
