HOLDEN – Thomas “Tom” L. Smith, 52, died unexpectedly from a heart attack in Massachusetts on his way back from Florida. He was born April 26, 1951, in Bangor, the son of L. Edward and Phyllis Ann (Infiorati) Smith. Tom graduated from Bangor High School and Eastern Maine Vocational Technical Institute. He then worked in Danvers, Mass., at Babco Industries for five years. Tom then moved back home and went to work for the past 26 years for Osram Sylvania working the night shift. He was a life-member of the National Rifle Association and the Airplane Owners Pilots Association. Tom was also a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He loved NASCAR and fishing, but more then anything he was a great father and husband and loved his children and grandchildren and will be dearly missed. In addition to his mother, Phyllis, of Bangor, Tom is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Christine (Vardamis) Smith of Holden; two daughters, Kelly Smith and companion, Richard Porter, of Holden, Jennifer Smith and companion, Shane Radcliff, of Cape Coral, Fla.; two grandsons, Johnathan and Ryan; a brother, Michael Smith, and wife, Yvonne, of Bradenton, Fla.; two sisters, Judy Masters, and husband, Rex, of Aurora, Colo., Cathy Karam and husband, Butch, of Stillwater; mother-in-law, Nancy McCaughan, of Tampa, Fla.; father-in-law, Donald Clark and wife, Carol, of Eddington; and several nieces and nephews. Tom was predeceased by his father, L. Edward Smith. Friends are invited to meet with the family 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday, April 29, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 531 North Main St., Brewer, with the Rev. Joel Cyr, celebrant.
