NEW SWEDEN – Thomas “Tom” Smart, 58, died unexpectedly Aug. 23, 2007, in Bangor, as the result of an accidental fall while at a construction site. He was born Dec. 15, 1948, in Bangor, the son of the late Wilfred Vaillencourt and Fanny Anderson. Tom was a self-employed carpenter in the Caribou area for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman, who loved to hunt fish and spend time camping with his family and in more recent years with his grandson. He is survived by his loving wife of more than 35 years, Georgie Ann (Campbell) Smart of New Sweden; his son and daughter-in-law, Travis and Shannon Smart; and his grandson, Jacob, all of New Sweden; two brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Judy Anderson of New Sweden and Richard and Catherine Vaillencourt of Hull, Mass.; three sisters, and two brothers-in-law, Jill and Henry Jolly of Woodland, Becky and Mike Sadberry of Cottondale, Ala., and Lynette Pyle of Massachusetts; his stepmother, Natalie Cushman of Kissimmee, Fla.; two brothers-in-law, Jim Campbell and his wife, Marie, of Masardis and Eugene Campbell and his son, Daniel, of Fort Fairfield; many nieces, nephews, family friends; and his extended family, the Gustafson’s, the Zetterman’s, the Strid’s and the Haney’s. Mr. Smart was predeceased by a sister, Linda Searles. Friends may visit with the family 6-9 p.m. Monday at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou.
