MILLINOCKET and WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Valerie A. Legassey, 72, died Wednesday, June 18, 2008, in West Palm Beach, Fla. She was born Sept. 28, 1935, in Millinocket, the daughter of Weston and Elizabeth (Barnett) Harnish. She was the youngest of 12 children. She went back to school and received her GED. Valerie worked at Great Northern Paper Co., East Millinocket and was a member of the VFW Post there. She had also earned her Occupational Health certificate. Valerie moved to West Palm Beach, Fla., in the late 1990s, where she worked as a security officer and most recently, in the recycling business, turning scrap iron into cash to help the needy and homeless. She collected toys, food and clothing, and also gave haircuts to those who needed. She is survived by four sons, Vincent Harnish of West Palm Beach, Fla., Charles Landry of Miami, Adam Tapley and his wife, Beth, of East Millinocket and Stacy Tapley of Millinocket; three daughters Amber Landry of Lewiston, Elizabeth Day and her husband, William, of Livingston, La., and Kristy Naaykens and her husband, James Jr., of East Millinocket; 16 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and many more family and friends from Maine to Florida. Friends are invited to visit with the family 1-3 p.m. Sunday, June 22, at Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket, with a funeral service 3 p.m. with Deacon Danny Watson officiating.
