VALWORTH L. DEAN CONCORD, N.H. – Valworth L. Dean, 77, died Tuesday March 16, 2004, at Concord Hospital. He was born in Easton, the son of James and Olive (Hoyt) Dean. He graduated from Easton High School and then attended Husson College in Bangor. He is a graduate of Franklin Pierce College and the U.S. Air Force NCO Academy. Mr. Dean served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He retired from the Air Force after 21 years of service. He then worked for the U.S. Department of Health and Welfare, Social Security Administration for 15 years. He was a member of the Bow Mills United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Elks, American Legion and VFW He was also a life long member of the IOOF. He volunteered at the Veterans Administration. Mr. Dean loved to travel, was an avid golfer and an ardent Red Sox fan. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Evelyn (Small) Dean of Concord; a daughter, Susan M. Xenakis and her husband, Mark, of Warner, N.H.; a son, Thomas E. Dean and his wife, Patti, of Concord, N.H.; four granddaughters, Abigail and Rebekah Dean of Concord, Valerie and Alexandra Xenakis of Warner; two grandsons, James and Andrew Xenakis of Warner; a sister, Charlotte Cantrell of Mary Esther, Fla.; a brother, Vaughn Dean of Navarre Fla.; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Carroll Dean who died in February 2004. Calling hours will be held 4-6 p.m. Saturday, March 20, at Bennett Funeral Home, 209 North Main St., Concord, N.H. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, March 21, at the Bow Mills United Methodist Church, 505 South St., Bow, N.H. The Reverend Steven Garnaas-Holmes will officiate. Burial will be held 9 a.m. Monday, March 22, at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen.
