BANGOR – Velma Gladys (Nealley) Brown, 87, died Aug. 15, 2004, at a Bangor hospital. She was born March 21, 1917, in Winterport, the daughter of Monton D. and Grace (Brown) Nealley. Velma was a sales clerk at Freeses Department Store for many years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, member of the former Russell Circle and the Bethany Circle. She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Ralph F. Brown; two sisters, June Wentworth, of Monroe, Shirley Kenney and husband, Robert, of Searsport; a brother-in-law, Fred Brown, of Bangor; a sister-in-law, Winifred Wood, of Holden; many nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to her parents; she was predeceased by two sisters, Vernice Elliot and Kathryn Shorey; and a brother, Lloyd Nealley. Friends are invited to visit with the family 6-8 p.m., Monday, Aug. 16, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 17, with the Rev. Dr. Randall C. Chretien, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Bangor, following the services, gifts in her memory may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, Maine Chapter, 163 Lancaster St., Suite 160B, Portland, ME 04101.
