SORRENTO and JONESPORT Today we lost our precious Mother, Nanny and devoted friend. A beautiful rose blo-omed in Gods garden in heaven to join our other loved ones. Your love and special “I love you” will be in our hearts forever. Velma Leah Kilton, 95, wife of the late Charles A. Kilton, went to be with the Lord Feb. 3, 2008, at an Ellsworth hospital. She was born March 24, 1912, in Bar Harbor, the daughter of Leeman and Bertha (Davis) Smith. Her younger years were spent in Milo. Velma moved to Jonesport and married her beloved husband of 33 years. They opened their own grocery store in Jonesport, where Velma had her own bakery. After her husbands’ death, she worked as a cashier at the Jonesport IGA. She enjoyed life to its fullest. Velma truly enjoyed her nights playing Beano, fishing, playing Bunco, knitting, cooking, dressing up on Halloween, dressing as Santa and being a bunny on Easter. Velma was a member of the RLDS Church, known now as Community of Christ Church, Jonesport. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, and especially loved being a devoted mother and grandmother. She is survived by her son, Charles “Bud” Kilton and his wife, Marita; a daughter, Patricia “TeeTee” Alley and her husband, Roland, all of Sorrento; a daughter-in-law, Eleanor Kilton of Jonesport; four grandchildren, Irma Pelletier and friend, Leo Chandler Jr., Charlene Buteau, Peggy Smith and her husband, Ralph, and Rose Denny and her husband, Stevie; eight great-grand-children, Michelle Thayer and her husband, Brian, James Robinson and his wife, Andrea, Robert Robinson IV and his wife, Jackie, Brandi Walston and her husband, Justin, Marita Taylor and her husband, Andrew, Charles Buteau, Tracy Smith and Kimberley Davis and her husband, Peter; 15 great-great-grandchildren, Ash-ley, Tyler, Mathew, Lauren, Nikolas, Sydney, Robie, Chance, Emerson, Pierce, Kase, Aiden, Amber, Cody and Kyle; two sisters-in-laws, Dorothy Morency and her husband, Paul, of Norway and Lillian Margaretta of Cutler, several nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends; and her special kitty, “Beauty.” In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by one son, Donald A. Kilton; a grandson, Phil Buteau; three brothers, Orrin, Ernest and Lee-man Smith Jr.; and one sister, Inez Storti. The family would like to thank the many special caregivers for their wonderful care at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, Eleanor Widener Memorial Clinic, Eldercare of Maine, Hancock County Health-care, Community Health and Counseling, Acadia Healthcare, Home Care for Maine, Hospice Volunteers and the group at County Ambulance. A funeral service will be celebrated 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, at Community of Christ Church, Jonesport. Friends may call 10 a.m. until time of service.
