EAST MACHIAS – Roland Esten Hooper Sr., 85, passed away Feb. 3, 2008, at a Machias hospital. He was born April 3, 1922, in Machias, the son of Merrill and Inez (Morse) Hooper. Through the years, he work-ed at many local businesses, including J.W. Davis, Schoppee’s Dairy, Whitney’s Garage, SAD No. 77 and most recently, delivered newspapers for the Bangor Daily News. He enjoyed going to Archibald’s and Tom’s Mini Mart to have “coffee with the boys.” He looked forward to going to the Tilton cattle auction with Bud and Alden. He enjoyed gardening, his John Deere tractor and feeding the birds. He was a member of Downeast Farmers Association. He is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Ginny; a son, Roland Jr.; two stepsons, Eddie Stevens and wife, Colleen, of Whitneyville and Hollis Stevens and wife, Tammy, of East Machias; stepdaughter, Jada Hanscom and husband, Barry, of East Machias; eight grandchildren, Katie, Jacob, Shanee, Whitney, Natea, Kaiya, Jessica and Chad; a brother, Gene Hooper and wife, Flo; two sisters, Emma Cunningham and Elosie and her husband, Richard Betrano; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and his special canine friend, Boo-Boo. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, at Jacksonville Cemetery with Alden Foss officiating. The family requests no flowers. Arrangements are in care of McClure Family Funeral Services, Lubec.
