SHERMAN and ANSONIA, Conn. – Velma Ordway, 90, died Aug. 13, 2008, in Shelton, Conn. She was born Aug. 3, 1918, in Sherman, the daughter of John and Lillian (Giles) Horsman. She helped her son run the Sherman Texaco and Katahdin Valley Motel for several years, and was an avid bowler. Velma is survived by one daughter, Charlotte and her husband, Mario Scrimenti, of Ansonia, Conn.; three sons, Robert Ordway of Mexico, Ronald and his wife, Karen Ordway, and John and his wife, Christine Ordway, all of Georgia; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Thelma Drew of Houlton and Ida McNally of Island Falls; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, George; two sons, George and Keith; and two sisters, Helen London and Mildred Bright. Friends may call 1-2 p.m. Thursday at Calvary Baptist Church, Sherman Station, where a funeral service will be held 2 p.m. with the Revs. George Springer and Donnis Willigar officiating. Interment will be at Patten Cemetery. Arrangements by Bowers Funeral Home, Island Falls.
