CHERRYFIELD – Vera Ailene (Merritt) Willey went to be with her Lord Oct. 29, 2005. Vera was born Aug. 17, 1912, in Harrington, the daughter of the late George W. and Alice (McLaughlin) Merritt. She attended and graduated from Harrington High School. Vera was a wonderful cook and never missed peeling potatoes and baking pies for the Congregational Church suppers. She also did beautiful needlework. She was the head floor lady in the freezer department. for many years at Cherryfield Foods and also worked at C.H. Matthews Store. Vera did beautiful wallpapering in homes in and around Cherryfield. She loved flowers, birds, and butterflies. Vera was a very loving mother and grandmother and will be sorely missed by all who loved her. Surviving Vera is one son, Carl E. Willey and his wife, Sarah C. Willey, of Cherryfield; grandson, Roger T. Willey of Florida; a daughter-in-law, Kathleen (Geel) Willey; a granddaughter, Danielle, and grandson, Brian Willey, all of Cherryfield; two granddaughters, Connie Oliver and her three children, Christine, Kaitlyn and Jeffery and LouEllen Lawrence and her husband, Rob, and their three children, Alex, Josh and Hanna, all of Connecticut; sister-in-law, Evangeline Farnsworth; numerous nephews and nieces; and many special friends. Vera was predeceased by her husband, Roger K. Willey; daughter, Constance Strout; son, Cary E. Willey; brothers, Winslow, Cecil and Stanley Merritt; sisters, Leota Ames and Georgia Nelson; and grandson, Byron Ray Sharpley. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6, at the Morse Cemetery in Cherryfield with the Rev. Joe Palmer officiating Arrangements are under the care of Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, Milbridge.
