GOULDSBORO – Vera M. Carter, 82, of West Bay Road, died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2006, with her family by her side at her home. She was born March 6, 1924, in Columbia, the daughter of the late William Parker and Cora (Grant) Vance. V. was educated in the Columbia schools. She made biscuits, donuts and baked beans out of her home for years. An avid outdoors person, Mrs. Carter enjoyed raising chickens and birds from infancy and educating her children on the process. Having a green thumb, she enjoyed vegetable gardening. She shared 46 years of marriage with her first husband, Ivory D. Whalen, who died in 1991. After the death of her first husband, she was remarried to Lloyd H. Linnell Sr. in 1998. Mr. Linell died in 2001. Most recently she has shared three years of marriage with her third husband, Clarence Carter of Gouldsboro. In addition to her husband, Clarence, family members include children, Cora Dorr and her husband, Paul, of Gouldsboro, Mona Brann of Ellsworth, David Whalen and his companion, Sue, of Gouldsboro and Wayne Whalen and his wife, Eleanor, of Gouldsboro; six grandchildren, Andy, Vicki, Cindy, Bob, Dan and Crystal; six great-grandchildren, Damion, Ian, Natalie, Mike, Chris and Lexi; siblings, Esther, Rodie, Ruby, Maxine, Leona, Winona, Celia, Perley and Leslie; and many nieces and nephews. She leaves behind special stepchildren, Jo and Gary Doane of Franklin, Patti and Bill Marzelli of Middleboro, Mass., Sandra and Bobby Letourneau of Brunswick, Gary and Kim Carter of Lisbon Falls and Debbie and Kevin Erickson of Hartford, Texas. She was predeceased by a son, Frank in 1956; three brothers and one sister. Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 13, at the Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 47 Main St., Milbridge. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call 9 a.m. Monday until the hour of the service at the funeral home.
