HOULTON and SHERMAN – Vera M. McDonald, 95, wife of the late Erferd A. McDonald, passed away Feb. 11, 2005, at Houlton. She was born Dec. 7, 1909, at Sherman Station, the oldest daughter of John and Ida (Kennedy) Perkins. Vera worked for the U.S. Postal Service from 1927 until her retirement in 1975. She was first employed as a postal clerk, then she became postmaster in 1947, following her fathers death, who had been postmaster. She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Sherman and was a member of the sodality. Vera is survived by a daughter, Arlene Burton and her husband, James, of Houlton; a daughter-in-law, Ann McDonald of Jacksonville, Fla.; four grandchildren, Gale Cyr, Susan McAfee of Houlton, Edward McDonald of Columbia, Mo., Carol Christopherson of Jacksonville, Fla.; six great-grandchildren, Levi, Aaron, Brandon, Amanda, Matthew and Mark; one sister-in-law, Arlene Rancourt and her husband, William, of Seabrook, N.H. She was predeceased by her husband, Erferd; a son, John; a sister, Avis Ingraham; a brother, John Arnold Perkins. Friends may call 7-8 p.m. Sunday at the Bowers Funeral Home, 10 Water St., Houlton. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Houlton, with Deacon Albert Burleigh officiating.
