DEXTER and MONTICELLO Vera Mae Nichols, 99, went to be with her Lord, Aug. 25, 2004. She was born Aug. 19, 1905, at Blaine, a daughter of George and Mae (McPherson) Hutchinson. She graduated from Bridgewater High School in 1924, and married Paul A. Nichols in 1925. Vera was better known as Bebe and was loved by all who knew her. She spent her life doing for others, and will be remembered for her hospitality and meals. She loved her family and prayed for every one of them. Her most frequent statement was “God has been so good to me; I have nothing to complain about.” She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dexter. She is survived by one son, James “Bud” Nichols and wife, Kay of Dexter; one daughter, Vesta Porter and husband, Ronald of Hermon; three grandsons, James and wife, Cindy Nichols of Ripley, Douglas and wife, Donna Nichols of Dexter, Dale and wife, Sally Porter of Hermon; three granddaughters, Anne and husband, Neil Clukey of Dexter, Robin Smith of Brewer, Joan and husband, Robert Knights of Ellsworth; 12 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson; a brother, George and wife, Vera Hutchinson of Monticello; a special, friend and sister-in-law, Dorothy Hutchinson of Houlton; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband, Paul, who predeceased her in 1981, she was predeceased by two sons, Dale and Wayne; two grandsons, Christopher Nichols and Michael Porter; and a daughter-in-law, Jean Nichols; four brothers, Charles, John, Malcolm and Merle; and three sisters, Alta Lowry, Orpha Jones, and Velma Wotton. There will be no public visitation. A graveside funeral and committal service will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 30, at the family lot, Jewell Cemetery, Monticello, with the Rev.
