ST. MATTHEWS, S.C. – Verlene Evelyn Chandler Perkins, 63, of 3868 Old State Road, died Saturday morning, Jan. 19, 2008, at Palmetto Health Baptist Hospital, Columbia, S.C. Mrs. Perkins was born in Jonesport, a daughter of Mrs. Juanita Kelley Chandler and the late Clifford L. Chandler. She was a graduate of Jonesport High School. She was a retired billing specialist from the South Carolina Department of Corrections. Mrs. Perkins was a member of Faith Baptist Church, where she was a choir member and former Sunday school teacher. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert F. Perkins; and by a brother-in-law, Jack Backman. Survivors include two sons, David Foss and wife, Lynne Hammond, and Steven Foss of Madison; two daughters, Jennifer Hall and husband, John, of Swansea, S.C., and Michelle Stackhouse and husband, Kelly, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; her mother of Belfast; brother, Clifford Chandler Jr. and wife, Madelyn, of Skowhegan; five sisters, Lorena Rogers and husband, Ronald, of Moore, Okla., Arleta Grant and husband, Lee, of Addison, Phoebe French and husband, Gerald, of Searsport, Shirley Beal and husband, Robert, of Beals and Susan Champagne and husband, Ed, of Rossville, Tenn., 11 grandchildren, Nicholas, Bryan and Skylar Foss, Nicholas, Timmy, Callie and Grant Hall, Jared, Alena, Ellie and Gabe Stackhouse; great-granddaughter, Kylee Ann Foss; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral was held 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, at Prospect Southern Methodist Church, Jamison, S.C. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Dukes-Harley Funeral Home.
