BANGOR and SEARSPORT Vernard “Tiny” Ayer died Nov. 12, 2006. He was born March 29, 1927, in Biddeford, the son of Claude and Irene (Mugridge) Ayer. He worked for many years at the chemical plant in Searsport and ran “Ayer’s Repairs;” auto repair and used parts business, Searsport. He was proud to have helped build the first nuclear submarine, the USS Nautilus. He enjoyed bowling, camping and family get togethers. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lois (Grant) Ayer; four children, Anne Marriner and her husband, Steven, Edward Ayer, Marsha Wilson and her husband, Dave and Peter Ayer and his wife Millie; one sister, Janice Irene Ayer of Portland; six grandchildren, Kristy, Lori, Melissa, Craig, Randi and Andrea; and seven great-grandchildren. At his request, private graveside services will be held at a later date in Scarborough. Arrangements by Memorial Alternatives, 205 Center St., Bangor.
