MAPLETON – Vernon “Sam” C. Elliott, 77, died Saturday evening, Nov. 3, 2007, at a Pres-que Isle hospital. He was born March 9, 1930, in Mapleton, the son of Charles S. and Climena (Archer) Elliott. Sam served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He most recently worked as a night watchman at Levesque Lumber, Masardis. He is survived by two sons, Charles Elliott of Mapleton and Kevin DaFonte of Hartley, Del.; a stepson, Stephen McPherson of Presque Isle; a brother, Erwin Elliott and his wife, Paula, of Mapleton; four grandchildren, Jamie Lynn Pelkey of Presque Isle, Dylan Elliott of Mapleton, Mason Lavway of Iowa, and Cassie Elliott of Florida; and three great-grand-children; two adopted grandchildren, Samantha Murphy and T.J. Lovley, both of Presque Isle. He was predeceased by his wife, Reta (McPherson) Elliott; two sons, Stuart and Sammye Elliott; and a sister, Donna Landry. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, at Southside Cemetery, Mapleton, with the Rev. Kenneth Fox officiating. Condolences may be expressed at www.duncan-graves.com
