LINCOLN – Vernon W. Libby, 85, entered into eternal rest, April 7, 2005, at a Lincoln healthcare fac-ility. He was born April 1, 1920, in Lincoln, the son of the late Alvah K. and Josephine (Mott) Libby. Vernon graduated from high school in 1940 and entered the service in 1943. He served under General Patton in Company D, 35th Tank Battalion in World War II. He was injured in the Battle of the Bulge, and received two purple hearts, numerous medals and ribbons and two bronze stars. After the war, he entered into his own business as a merchant, and was the founder of Libby’s Color Boutique. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening and was a member of the Men’s Bowling League for many years. He was devoted to his family, friends, neighbors and the Lincoln Center Baptist Church. He is survived by a daughter, Lynda (Libby) Curry of Rehoboth, Mass.; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, Jamie McKitchen, husband, Bobby; and son, D.J. Michalik of Riverside, R.I., Cathy Soufy; husband, Charlie; and daughter, Jordan, of Rehoboth, Mass.; and Jimmy Curry, wife, Colleen; and son, Joey Scallon of Rehoboth, Mass.; a son, Brent Libby, wife, Jennifer of Stowe, Vt.; three grandchildren, Ashley Libby of Manchester, Vt., Elizabeth Libby and Kate Libby, both of Stowe, Vt.; two brothers, Rodney Libby and Floyd Libby, both of Lincoln; two stepsons, Mark Lindquist and Philip Lindquist; wife, Felecia; and grandsons, Adam Lindquist and Steven Lindquist, all of Lincoln; many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Dorothy (Bradstreet) Libby; second wife, Lorraine Lindquist Libby; three brothers, Leon Libby, Robert Libby and Arthur Libby; and four sisters, Beatrice Libby, Lottie Sweet, Irene Bailey and Hilda Washburn. Friends may call 1-3 p.m. Saturday at the Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln, where funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, with Pastor William Bewell and Vernon’s nephew, Reginald Sweet officiating.
