BUCKSPORT – Vina W. Orcutt, 85, died peacefully Dec. 14, 2007, with her family by her side at an Orono health care facility. She was born June 4, 1922, in Bucksport, the daughter of Irving and Eva (Rideout) Gross. Vina was a graduate of Walter H. Gardner High School and on Oct. 17, 1945, she married the love of her life, Robert E. Orcutt, with whom she spent 60 years, until his passing in April 2006. She loved traveling. She and Bob spent many vacations exploring Canada, New England and New York. They had many fond memories of their six-week adventure tra-veling in their camper across the United States in 1980. Vina enjoyed card games, making pillows, knitting, shopping, but most of all, she loved her family. The countless hours she spent cooking up a meal for her grandchildren, whether or not they had just eaten at home and all the special treats she kept for them, plenty of candy and “cardboard cookies,” as Gramp used to call them! She always looked forward to Sunday when the whole family would gather for a meal prepared by her and Gramp, or sandwiches and pizza. She enjoyed listening to the stories and catching up on family news and watching the great-grandchildren play. Her love and presence will be surely missed. Vina is survived by one son, Larry R. Orcutt and his wife, Deborah; three beloved grandchildren, Jennifer Noonan and husband, Michael, and daughters, Caitlin and Cassidy, Jason Orcutt and wife, Terry, and daughter, Ella, and Joseph Orcutt and wife, Danielle, and daughter, Halle; several cousins, one niece and two nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son, Robert S.; brother, Raymond Gross; and three half sisters, Thelma, Laura and Ruby. The family would like to thank Loris DeCesard for the loving care she received at home, and to the caregivers at Orono Commons and to everyone who came in to say hello or wave hi as they passed her room. She loved you all. Thank you to the hospice workers for the loving care and attention she received these last few months. God bless you all. At Vina’s request, there will be no funeral. A private graveside service will be conducted at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Vina’s memory may be made to East Bucksport United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1727, Bucksport, ME 04416. Arrangements are under the direction of Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 28 Elm St., P.O. Box A, Bucksport, ME 04416.
