COLUMBIA FALLS – Eleanor (Grant) Pineo, 92, died Dec. 15, 2007, at a Jonesport health care facility. She was born April 4, 1915, in Columbia, the daughter of Elmer and Zella (Bagley) Grant. Eleanor graduated from Columbia Falls High School in 1933. She married Joel Wilson Pineo, co-owner and later president of Pineo Lumber Co., in 1941. She assisted Joel with office work and bookkeeping for many years; the two also enjoyed Saturday night dances at local Grange halls. Eleanor and Joel were married for 33 years until Joel’s death in 1974. Eleanor was a homemaker, who took pride in the care she gave to her house and her family. Her loved ones will remember her for her attentive care, fine cooking and quick wit. Eleanor is survived by a daughter, Lana Smith of Columbia Falls; a son, Ralph Pineo Sr. and his wife, Lori, of Addison; four grandchildren, Philip Smith and his wife, Patti, of Connecticut, Joel Smith of New York, Jan Wolford and her husband, Joe, of Oregon and Ralph Pineo Jr. of Whitneyville; four great-grand-children, several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, Warren and Burleigh Grant; and one sister, Marie Erwin. A graveside service at Columbia Cemetery will be announced in the spring. Gifts in her memory may be sent to the charity of one’s choice.
