VAN BUREN – Viola A. Cyr, 77, died July 10, 2005, at a Van Buren nursing home. She was born July 19, 1927, in Van Buren, the daughter of Thomas A. and Euphemie (Guerrette) Lapointe Sr. Viola was educated in local schools and was a 1946 graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Van Buren. She was employed as the food service manager and cafeteria supervisor for the Van Buren school system for 29 years. For her devotion and dedication she was enshrined into the SAD No. 24 Hall of Fame following her retirement. Vi was a communicant of St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church and a former Eucharistic minister. She was a member of the Third Order of Mary, the Evangeline Circle, Daughters of Isabella and the Good Shepherd Affiliates. She was also a member and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 49 of Van Buren. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Lionel J. Cyr of Van Buren; one son, James Cyr and his wife, Marie-Berthe, of El Portal, Calif.; one daughter, Rebecca Switzer and her husband, James, of Kerrville, Texas; two granddaughters, Lisa Rossignol and Jessica Eyles; five great-grandchildren, Chloe, Sierra, Noah, Denali and Kobe; three brothers, Thomas Lapointe and his wife, Doris, of Lakewood, N.J., John Lapointe and his wife, Rolande, of New Britain, Conn., Gerald Lapointe and his wife, Kathy, of Cape Elizabeth; five sisters, Constance Lapointe of South Deerfield, Mass., Mabel Pushkarwitz of Orlando, Fla., Theresa Lessard of Hebron, Conn., Gertrude Coronetti of Dover, Del., and Barbara Bossie of Van Buren; many nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by a very special sister-in-law, Irena Cyr of Van Buren and her family. Relatives and friends may call at the Ouellette-Thibault Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until time of service on Thursday. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday, at the St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church. Committal service and interment will be in the parish cemetery.
