WASHBURN – Virginia D. “Ginny” Humphrey, 79, died unexpectedly May 10, 2007, at her residence. She was born Aug. 21, 1927, in Washburn, the daughter of Ansel and Vesta (Alward) Thompson. She was a graduate of the Washburn High School, Class of 1945, and also graduated from the Fisher Junior College, Boston. Virginia was employed at the Washburn Electric Co., as a secretary for many years until her retirement in 1982, and was also the secretary for the superintendent of the Washburn District High School. She was a member of the Lidstone Memorial United Methodist Church, Washburn, where she was also a member of the United Methodist Women’s Group. She loved her knitting and would always have a knitting needle or crochet hook in her hand. Virginia “Ginny” was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to her family. Virginia married James E. Humphrey Feb. 15, 1951. Surviving, in addition to her loving and devoted husband of 56 years, James of Washburn, are one son, James M. Humphrey and his wife, Cindy, of Presque Isle; one brother, Robert Thompson and his wife, Gwen, of Washburn; one sister, Sue Sands and her husband, Bert, of Woodland; two brothers-in-law, Al Humphrey of North Little Rock, Ark., and Frederick Martin of Washburn; three sisters-in-law, Mildred Duncan of Arlington, Mass., Marion Boyce and her husband, Wesley, of Washburn, and Lois Gordon and her husband, Ken, of Little Madawaska Lake; four grandsons, Matthew Humphrey, Jason White and Jonathan Humphrey, all of Presque Isle and Bradley Humphrey of Cleveland, Tenn.; and a great-granddaughter, Jordan Humphrey of Presque Isle. She was predeceased by her father, Ansel, in 1964; her mother, Vesta, in 2003; and her brother, Ansel Jr., in 1975. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Monday at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, at Lidstone United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dorothy Mattson, pastor, officiating. Interment will take place at Riverside Extension Cemetery, Washburn.
