CALAIS – Virginia G. Grant, 83, died Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at a Calais hospital. Virginia was born Aug. 20, 1922, in Calais, daughter of the late Wallace and Mabel (Gibson) Greenlaw. She was retired from Ware Knitters, where she was employed for many years as a stitcher. Virginia was a member of the First Baptist Church in Milltown, Happy Gang Senior Citizens Group and the Seniority Group, both of Calais. She had a love for animals and enjoyed shopping, reading and spending time with her family. Virginia was predeceased by a son, Bernard L. Grant in 1985; a grandson, Leslie Knowles; three brothers, Norman, Carl and Parker Greenlaw; two sisters, Flora Smith and Marion Robbins. Surviving are a son, George Grant and his wife, Vicki, of Alexander; seven grandchildren, Pam Ramsay and husband, David, of Calais, Georgina Pryor of Houlton, Wendy Boles of Houlton, Virginia Grant of Meddybemps, Bernard Grant of Lubec, Betty Jean Wallace and husband, Joseph, of Alexander, and George Knowles of Baring; 15 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Bob Hinton officiating.
