HAMPDEN – Virginia Mae (Moon) Garland, 92, passed away peacefully June 13, 2004, at a Bangor healthcare facility. She was born April 16, 1912, in Ellsworth, the daughter of Albert G. and Rebecca Mabel (Withee) Moon. Ginny was a graduate of Ellsworth High School, Class of 1931. She had been a resident of Hampden since 1947, and was an active member of the Hampden Highlands United Methodist Church. Ginny was an active participant of the Hampden Garden Club and the Highlanders. Ginny was also active in scouting, having been a den mother and leader for many years. She was very good at crafts and always made May Baskets to sell for the church. Ginny was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, who enjoyed her family and going to the family’s cottage. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 58 years, Everett Prescott Garland, in 1996; by a grandson, John Robert Garland, in 2001; three brothers, Herbert, James and George Moon; and a sister, Florence Polley. She is survived by two sons, Richard Everett Garland and his wife, Joyce, of State College, Pa., and Robert George Garland and his wife, Susan, of Bangor; four grandchildren, Joshua Garland and special friend, Kate Fisher, Kimberly Elliott and husband, Ray, Mark Garland and wife, Kristin, and Heather Ponzo and husband, Aaron; six great-grandchildren, Ashli, Randy, Abby, Kendra, Paige and Allison; several nieces, nephews and many family friends and neighborhood friends. Visiting hours will be held, 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday. Following the service a time of fellowship and refreshments will be held at the Hampden Highlands United Methodist Church, 44 Kennebec Road, Hampden. Interment will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor.
