VIRGINIA R. GARDNER ORONO – Virginia R. Gardner, 88, wife of the late Wofford G. Gardner, died May 29, 2004, at her Orono home. She was born Oct. 10, 1915, in Wellington, Kan., the daughter of Clyde and Nora (Brann) Moore. Virginia had retired from the University of Maine, Fogler Library, and was a member of the Orono United Methodist Church, where she was active in the United Methodist Women, and she also was a volunteer for the Orono Health Association. She is survived by one son, Stephen Gardner and his wife, Mary Ann, of Orono; two daughters, Beverly and her husband, James Abbott, of East Winthrop, Kathleen and her husband, John Field, of Orono; two brothers, Philip Moore of Wellington, Kan., Keith Moore of Albion, Mich.; 10 grandchildren, David Abbott of Belfast, Sheila Wells and Kimberly Helton, both of Pulaski, Tenn., Andrew Alexander of Salt Lake City, Utah, Stephen Alexander of Hinsdale, N.H., Sarah Dube of Manchester, N.H., Sara Miller and Susan Gardner, both of Orono, Christin Field of Newburyport, Mass., Jesse Field of Houston, Texas; nine great-grandchildren, Kristie and Brandon Wells, Christopher and Matthew Abbott, Emily and Isabel Alexander, Olivia and Sophia Dube, Roan Alexander. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband Wofford G. Gardner; four brothers and two sisters. A service of remembrance will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, at the Orono United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Terence McKinley, pastor, and her grandson, Rev. David Abbott, pastor of the Belfast United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Orono.
