JONESPORT – Vivian R. Hoffses, 88, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, April 30, 2007. She was born Feb. 19, 1919, in Jonesport, the daughter of Sam and Elmira (Peabody) Polk. Vivian enjoyed going to and being a member of the Jonesport Wesleyan Church for 60 years. Vivian was a strong and dedicated Christian who read her bible everyday and prayed daily for family, friends, missionaries and her country. Vivian was well known for her delicious fried clams, chowders, cakes, pies and cookies. Vivian also enjoyed entertaining and visiting with her family and friends. Vivian was predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years, Elmer W. Hoffses; and her beloved brother, Carleton Polk. Vivian is survived by her two sons, Pearly S. Hoffses and wife, Virginia, of Bradenton, Fla., and Carleton J. Hoffses and wife, Suzen, of Jonesport; two granddaughters, Stephanie (Hoffses) Kramer and husband, Roger, of Gorham, and Allison (Hoffses) Thompson and her husband, Kevin, of Bath; four great-grandchildren, Sarah, Elizabeth, Darrell and Jacob Kramer of Gorham; favorite and beloved sister-in-law, Iona Polk of Cherryfield; nieces, a nephew and her special loving granddog, Bobo Polk-Hoffses. Vivian will be remembered by her special and loving friends, Irene Norton and family, Winkie and Hilda Peabody, Harry and Gloria Boyd, Dolly Bagley and family, Eunice Sibly and Linda French. Vivian’s wish was to be able to live and die in her home surrounded by the family that she loved. This would not have been possible without the help and support from the following people and agencies. The family would like to thank Dr. Edwin Tan of the Regional Medical Center at Lubec, for the wonderful care he gave Vivian over the years; to Ann Todd, R.N., Vivian’s wonderful and caring visiting nurse; Genie Hall, Vivian’s kind and gentle PCA/HHA; and Sherry Murphy, all of Sunrise County HomeCare for providing services that allowed Vivian to live at home; Kelli Francis and Loretta Libby of Elder Independence of Maine for the wonderful emotional support they gave to the family in caring for Vivian at home; to Down East Hospice volunteers, Judy Dakin, Jo-An Paige and Eleanor Butler for the wonderful respite care they provided the family during Vivian’s final months; and to all the people who kept Vivian in their thoughts and prayers. Visiting hours will be held 5-8 p.m. Thursday, May 3, at Jonesport Wesleyan Church. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, May 4, at the church with Pastor George Woodward and the Rev.
