PENOBSCOT – Volena R (Arfsten) Engelhardt, 90, died Feb. 7, 2004, at the Penobscot Nursing Home. She was born July 6, 1913, in Wykafohr, Germany, the daughter of Volkert and Tinne (Katelsen) Arfsten. Volena was a retired registered nurse and immigrated with her loving husband, the late Sievert H.F. Engelhardt, and three children to the U.S. in 1953. Volena was a loving mother of Jurgen O. Engelhardt and his wife Joyce, Volena Menna, and Annegret Cukierski and her husband, Michael. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Anthony Menna, Steven Menna, Heidi Lunasin, Eike Paneque, Chad Cukierski and Scott Cukierski; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Sievert H.F. Engelhardt. Donations may be made in her memory to the Penobscot Nursing Home Activity Fund, Penobscot, ME 04476.
