LIMESTONE – Waldron E. Babbidge, 68, well known area musician and educator, died unexpectedly May 15, 2004, at Limestone. He was born Aug. 21, 1935, in North Sullivan, the only child of Carlton and Carolyn (Stanley) Babbidge. He was a graduate of Lakeview High School in Oregon, attended Sterling College in Kansas, and then the Northern Conservatory of Music in Bangor. Waldron began his music teaching career in Vinalhaven. In 1959, he came to Washburn and taught there until 1981. He also taught music in Van Buren for two years, and taught his final 15 years for School Union No. 122. Waldron’s interests and abilities were many and varied. He ministered to the church community through his trumpet playing and singing. In addition to his musical talents, Waldron was an avid hunter and outdoorsman and over the course of his lifetime, he distinguished himself as a horseman and competitive distance runner. He is survived by his wife, Judy (Snowman) Babbidge of Limestone, with whom he celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary the week of his death; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Wally and Robin Babbidge of Talent, Ore., and Joshua Babbidge of San Francisco; one daughter and son-in-law, Leslie and Larkin Alford of Grenada, Miss.; one stepson, Stuart Beattie of Presque Isle; six grandchildren, Shanna, Lori, Carlton, and John Babbidge and Morgan and Shawn Alford. Waldron will also be sadly missed by his constant companion and friend, his chocolate lab, Moussette. Friends may call 2-4 p.m. Wednesday at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou, where funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Amuzzini officiating. Friends who wish to contribute in Mr. Babbidge’s memory may do so through a scholarship fund to be established in his memory. Envelopes are available through the funeral home.
