ISLAND FALLS – Wallace W. Townsend Jr., 79, husband of Annie L. Townsend, died June 21, 2008, in Bangor. He was born July 7, 1928, in Dyer Brook, the son of Wallace and Eunice (Rockwell) Townsend Sr. He graduated from Island Falls High School and served three years in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired from the Maine State Forestry in 1986, after 32 years as regional ranger of the Northern Division. He was a member of Island Falls United Baptist Church, where he served as a trustee and on the finance committee. Wallace was a member of Island Falls VFW Post No. 7529; Island Falls Masonic Lodge No. 206; Anah Shriners, past masters unit; Northern Penobscot Shrine Club, as a director; past chairman of SACHS School Committee; Island Falls selectman and as director of Lumberman’s Museum, Patten. He also worked 19 years as a broker for Perrin Reality. He is survived by his wife of Island Falls; three sons and their wives, Jeffrey and Jacquline Townsend of Bangor, Tracy and Jean Townsend of New Baltimore, Mich., and Garth and Angie Townsend of Island Falls; five grandchildren, Jason, Rachel and Garth Townsend Jr., Amy and James Magill; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, William and his wife, Lee Townsend, of Watkinsville, Ga., and Almon Townsend of Island Falls; one sister, Madelyn and her husband, James Hawkes, of Frederick, Md.; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one granddaughter, April Townsend. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Bowers Funeral Home, Island Falls. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Island Falls United Baptist Church with the Revs. Gary Johnson and James Flye officiating.
