MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. – Walter E. Richardson, 94, a retired line investigator for more than 40 years at Orange and Rockland Utilities and a longtime Middletown resident passed away peacefully Jan. 23, 2004, at Park Manor Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Middletown. He was born Sept. 21, 1909, in Bar Harbor, the son of Millard and Cora Richardson. Walt served as chief of the Middletown Fire Department from 1971-1975, he was assistant fire chief from 1963-1971, he joined the McQuoid Engine and Ladder Co. No. 3 in 1955, and he served in numerous company offices including captain and vice president of the company. He was McQuoid of the year in 1990, and served on the board of representatives from 1984-1997. He was a member of the Orange County Fire Chief’s Association, and the Middletown Veteran Fireman Association. Before working with Orange and Rockland, Walt worked for Bartlett Tree Service, and he was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Middletown. Survivors include his loving wife of 71 years, Rita D. Many Richardson at home; three daughters, Ann Cummings and her husband, Edward, of Middletown, N.Y., Lynn Williams of Oak Hill, Fla., and Jean Allee and her husband, Rod, of Middletown, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother; three sisters; and one son-in-law, Wilson Williams. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Euclid Ave., Middletown, NY. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Middletown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Two Gannett Dr., Suite LC, White Plains, NY 10604 or to the Arthritis Foundation, 122 East 42nd St., 18th floor, New York, NY 10168. Arrangements are under the supervision of Louis W. Morse Funeral Home, Inc., Middletown, N.Y.
