WALTER E. WHITMORE TOWNSHIP No. 8 – Walter E. Whitmore, 90, died peacefully, Oct. 29, 2003, at his home. He was born Feb. 13, 1913, in Hampden, the son of Leslie and Daisy M. (Fletcher) Whitmore. Walter worked for the Department of Transportation for 30 years. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He ran a machine shop for many years, fabricating parts for his many customers. He was a member of the Waltham Grange for several years. He is survived by a son, John Whitmore and his wife, Ronelda, of Township No. 8; three daughters, Sylvia Allen and her husband, Vincent “Bud” Donnell, of Ellsworth, Gloria Burton of Plantation No. 8, and Lois Keefer and her husband, Richard, of Winter Haven, Fla.; a brother, Austin Whitmore of Hancock; 14 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 56 years, Marguerite (Stillwell) Whitmore; four brothers; three sisters; and his first wife, Margaret (McArthur) Whitmore. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 5:30-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, 2003, at Jordan Funeral Home, 113 Franklin Street, Ellsworth where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 1, with Pastor Robert Maddocks officiating. Interment will be in Woodbine Cemetery, Ellsworth. If friends desire, they may make donations in Walter’s memory to Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, 50 Union Street, Ellsworth 04605.
