OLD TOWN – Walter G. “Gubby” Lizzotte, 81, died Feb. 14, 2008, at the Maine Veterans’ Home, after a yearlong battle with Multiple Myloma. Born Aug. 8, 1926, in Old Town, he was the son of Walter and Beatrice (Boudreau) Lizzotte. Gubby served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy and returned to graduate from Old Town High School. He then served during the Korean War and retired as a chief petty officer after 40 years of service from the Naval Reserve. He was a lifelong communicant of Holy Family Parish, a member of the Elks Lodge and VFW Post No. 3381. He worked for Maine Central Railroad for 30 years as a machinist. Gubby loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and being at this camp on Pushaw Lake and Crocker Turn. He was always known to lend a helping hand to family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 60 years, Eleanor (Jackson); his three children, Janet Bruehl and her husband, Michael, of Winterport, Michael Lizzotte and his wife, Libby, of Old Town and Timothy Lizzotte of Bradley; he was “Pep” to his five grandchildren, Dawn, Melanie, Jaret and his wife, Susan, Joshua and Justin; four great-grand-children, Riley, Sophia, Emma and Jackson; his sisters, B. Evangeline Desjardins and her husband, John E., of Virginia Beach, Va., and Marie Rose Martin of Cocoa Beach, Fla.; brother, John M. Lizzotte and his wife, Marilyn, of LaBelle, Fla.; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will be held 4-7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18, at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, at Holy Family Parish, Old Town. There will be a luncheon after at the parish hall. Donations may be made to Holy Family Parish Building Fund, 429 Main St., Old Town, ME 04468. A graveside service will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery in the spring.
