Swanville_- Walter G. Wood, 87, died April 5, 2004. Walter was born June 23, 1916, in Monroe, and lived all his adult life at the family farm in Swanville. The past one and a half years he spent at Harbor Hill Assisted Living in Belfast. He was the son of Eugene and Blanche (Brown) Wood. He was a dairy and chicken farmer for a number of years. After farming, he worked as a licensed Real Estate Agent selling for Strout Realty from the mid 1960’s to 1979. He was active in community_affairs by serving on the Board of Selectmen of Swanville_for several years. He also was a member of the School Committee and served as a member of the building committee to plan and oversee the construction of the first consolidated school in Swanville. He was a member of Marsh River Lodge No. 102 A.F. & A.M. of Brooks, and received his 50-year membership award in 1999. He was a charter member of the Antique Treasures of Maine, and was the first president of the club. He was an avid collector and restorer of antique automobiles and enjoyed many years participating with fellow collectors in parades, car shows and tours. He was predeceased by his first wife of 55 years, Alberta Thayer Wood; and his oldest daughter, Sylvia Wood Bates. He is survived by eight children; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and his second wife, Lillie Johnson Wood; sister, Grace LaBlanc of Augusta. His children are Roger and Letha Wood of Orland, Carolyn and Chris Maricondi of Dawson, Pa., Dianne and Paul Senechal, West Buxton, Donna and Cliff Sawyer of Limington, David and Anita Wood of Scarborough, Douglas and Diane Wood of Wells, Deborah and Nathan Curtis of Belfast, Natalie and Ernie Woodward of Prospect. His grandchildren are Niran Bates, Kevin Bates, Daphne Innes, Dacia Nason, Aaron Senchal, Christina Senchal, Jeffery Sawyer, Lisa Sawyer, Matthew Wood, Stephen Wood, Emily Wood, Hannah Curtis, Audra Curtis, Alex Woodward and MaKenna Woodward. His great-grandchildren are Carter and Brady Innes, Ashly Bates, Riley Nason and his newest great-granddaughter, Claire Isabelle Nason. Visiting hours are for family only per family request. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 9, 2004, at the Rackliffe Funeral Home, 22 Church St., Belfast, with Rev. Richard Reynolds officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Swanville, at a later date.
