BUCKFIELD – Walter Verne Scott Sr. died March 5, 2004, at his residence after a short illness. He was born at home in Buckfield on Oct. 23, 1934, the son of Vern S. and Ruth (Churchill) Scott. He was educated in Buckfield schools and graduated from high school in 1953, and worked in the woods until he was drafted into the Army in 1957. He married Diane Billings on Aug. 2, 1957, she died Dec. 17, 2001. After being discharged from the Army in 1959 at Colorado Springs, he drove a truck for five years for Roland Hamil, picking up milk at farms and then went to work for Wilner Wood for more than 21 years until they closed, then drove for Morin Brick in Danville, until he retired in 2001. He was a Maine state foster parent for 33 years. Walter loved the Red Sox, hunting, fishing, tending to his yard, traveling and especially his family. Walter is survived by six children, Walter and Kathy Scott Jr. of Mapleton, Jeff and Lisa of Lincoln, R.I., Jeanne and Billy Dibbert of Raleigh, N.C., Debbie and Stu Burns of Chelsea, Bessie Scott of Lewiston, and Sarrah Scott of Rumford; grandchildren, Amanda, Jessica, Laurel, Jordan, Ashley, Dannah and Garrett; and several stepgrandchildren; two special sisters-in-law, Darlene and Ray Glover and Jan Billings; his companion, Virginia Cyr; two brothers, Robert and Nancy of Harrison, and Sidney and Cynthia of West Paris; one sister, Linda and Randy Brown of Augusta; several nieces, nephews; and many friends. Visitation will be held Monday at 1-3 p.m. at the Buckfield Community Church. Graveside services will be held in the spring at the Damon Cemetery, Buckfield. Family has requested memorials in his name be made to the Buckfield Rescue, Box 99, Buckfield, ME 04220. Arrangements by Andrews Funeral Home, High Street, Buckfield.
