ADDISON – Warren L. Davis, 80, died Jan. 30, 2005, at Sunrise Health Care Facility in Jones-port after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born May 13, 1924, in Centerville, the son of Gladys M. Hayward. He attended school in Lubec. Following school, he joined the C.C. camps and then enlisted with the 9th U.S. Air Force as private first class of the 873rd Chemical Company Air Operations and he was a part-time tail gunner on a B26 and served his country in the Battle of the Bulge. After returning home from the armed services, he enjoyed working as a self-employed contractor. He worked trucking beans from Aroostook County, and he harvested and trucked peat and pulpwood. In 1962, he built his garage and operated Davis Fuel Service and Construction for 42 years. Over these years, he did ground work for many homes in the area, as well as deliver fuel oil, bottle gas, sold gasoline and provided auto repairs. During the same time, he harvested blueberries every year. He also served the Town of Addison as Road Commissioner for 13 years and was known in town as “The Commissioner.” He had worked all of his life and enjoyed doing construction up until the last two years when he had to give up working because of the cancer. His favorite family activity was his annual trip to the Blue Hill Fair with his kids and grandkids. He had as much fun as the kids and made everlasting memories for all who went. For many years he enjoyed going to dances on Saturday nights and he liked watching car races. He is survived by two sisters, Lois Duguay and her husband, Clifford, of Killingworth, Conn., and Juanita Hayward of Kenduskeag; the mother of their children, Edna Davis of Machias; a son, Osborne “Obbie” Davis and wife, Linda, of Addison; three daughters, Valerie Worcester and husband, Philip, of Columbia Falls, Vicki Garnett and husband, Glenn, of Addison and a special daughter, Wanda Jean Davis of Addison; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a family friend, Leland Frost; and many friends and neighbors. He was predeceased by his mother, Gladys M. Hayward; two brothers, Donald Hayward Sr. and Russell Hayward; and an uncle, Maxwell Davis. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, at the Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, Main St., Milbridge. A funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, at the Faith United Methodist Church in Columbia. Interment will follow in the Church Hill Cemetery, Addison.
