LEE – Way Frederick Welch, 87, died Feb. 16, 2006, at a Lincoln healthcare facility. He was born Sept. 25, 1918, in Lee, the son of Mildred Emma (Crocker) and Milton Herbert Welch. Way was in the U.S. Army for four years during World War II, serving in Iceland and Europe without ever having a furlough. He received the Purple Heart medal for injuries received in action. Way and his brothers carried on a woods business until retirement. He was a long-time member of the Lee Baptist Church. He is survived by a nephew, Harold Welch and his wife, Kathy; two great-nieces, Teisha and her husband, Aaron Priest and Joyce Welch; a great-great-niece, Arynne Elizabeth Priest; and a sister-in-law, Lois Welch, all of Lee. Way is also survived by a number of cousins in Maine, Massachusetts and New York City. He was predeceased by his parents, two sisters, Harriette and Helen; and three brothers, Quinton, Derward and John. Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Friday, at the Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Rd., Lincoln. Funeral services will be held 11. a.m. Saturday, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Mitchell Bickford, officiating. Spring interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
