MAPLETON- Wayne C. Kierstead, 73, went home to be with his Lord Jan. 11, 2006. He was born July 13, 1932, in Presque Isle, the son of Edgar and Ida (Carter) Kierstead. Wayne was a lifetime resident of the town of Mapleton, where he served on the Mapleton Board of Selectmen for the past 10 years. He was personally proud of his record of perfect attendance at Selectmen’s meetings. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Lakeside Advent Christian Camp Meeting Association in North Belgrade for many years. Wayne served as a pastor of the Oxbow and Masardis Congregational churches for more than 25 years. He was a member of the Oxbow Congregational Church and also attended the Mapleton Baptist Church. Wayne was a member of the Mapleton Volunteer Fire Company for 27 years and more recently served as a volunteer dispatcher and active supporter of the department. He is survived by his loving wife and friend of 51 years, Maureen (Dow) Kierstead of Mapleton; four daughters and their husbands, Debbie and Danny Briggs of South Berwick, Judy and Ken Atcheson of Presque Isle, Nancy and Stev Rogeski of Fort Fairfield and Karen and Ben Redman of Machias; 15 grandchildren, Elita Briggs Galvin, Rebekah Briggs, Laura Briggs West, Karen Briggs, Amanda and Abbey Atcheson, Nikki, Christopher, Dennis and Jake Rogeski, 1st Lt. Daniel Redman, Sarah Redman Wannemacher, Joshua, Jessica and Jesse Redman; five great-grandchildren, Natalie, Connor and Erin Galvin, Ayden Wannemacher and Jazmine West. He was predeceased by a grandson, Wayne Briggs. Also surviving him are two sisters and their husbands, Barbara and Keith Dow of Hampden and Janice and William Baughman of Pennsylvania; sister-in-law, Leona Akeley and her husband, Quintin, of Mapleton; brothers-in-law and their wives, Darrell and Bonnie Dow and Richard and Carlene Dow, all of Florida. Wayne will be greatly missed by his family and special friends, “The Knights of the Round Table” at the Mapleton Lunch; his friends at the Mapleton Fire Company and those whose lives he touched in Oxbow, Masardis and the town of Mapleton through his ministry and service. Relatives and friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Friday, at the Mapleton Baptist Church, Main Street, Mapleton. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, at the church, with the Rev. Kenneth Phelps, officiating. A spring interment will be in the Southside Cemetery in Mapleton. Those who wish may make donations in his memory to either the Lakeside Advent Christian Camp Meeting Association, care of Vickie Davis, 11 Eaton Point Rd., Deer Isle, ME 04627 or the Mapleton Elementary School Library, Mapleton, ME 04757. Arrangements are in the care of the Duncan-Graves Funeral Home in Presque Isle.
