OTIS – Wayne E. Tate, 70, passed away Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with prostate cancer. He was born Oct. 1, 1933, in Ellsworth, the son of Lorenzo and Ida (Salsbury) Tate. Wayne worked for Lane Construction for many years as a paver. He really enjoyed his job and the many friends he had there. He talked of them often and kept up on what they were doing. Wayne also was an avid hunter. He enjoyed working in the garden and getting wood for the winter. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Mary (Seavey) Tate of Otis; his daughters, Beth Black and her partner, Royce Osier, of Lamoine, Julie Havey and her husband, Wayne, of Franklin, Teresa Sprague and her husband, Roger, of Ellsworth; eight grandchildren, Kristi, Chantelle, Tyler, Devin, Emily, Heather, Hunter, and Ethan; brothers, Dwight Tate and his wife, Joan, of Otis, Harold Tate and his wife, Eleanor, of Levant; his sisters, Loretta Mitchell and her husband, Clyde, of Otis, and Brenda Scribner and her husband, Roy, of Farmington; and many special cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Naomi Stormann. At Wayne’s request there will be no calling hours or funeral. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003, at Evergreen Cemetery, Otis, with the Rev. Clifford Caine officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Wayne’s memory may be made to the Mary Dow Center, 50 Union Street, Ellsworth, ME 04605.
