MAPLETON – Woodrow “Woodie” Waddell, 91, passed away at a Presque Isle hospital on Nov. 15, 2003. He was born Sept. 30, 1912, in Mapleton, the son of Wallace and Phoebe (Craig) Waddell. Woodie was Past President of Limestone Rotary Club, held several offices in the Knights of Phthias Lodge, Past President of Mapleton Lions Club, and member of the United Baptist Church of Mapleton. Woodie was a competitive player in horseshoes, bridge and cribbage. For many years he played his banjo. Woodie lived a very active life his first 90 years, since then his recliner has been his best recreation. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Barbara (Higgins) Waddell of Mapleton; one stepson, Marvin Higgins of Searsmont; two stepdaughters, Louise Seeley of Presque Isle, and Marilyn Carter of Mapleton; four step-grandsons, Eric Higgins of Darien, Conn., Melvin Higgins of Rockport, Mass., Martin Carter of Ashland, and Daron Carter of Mapleton; eight step-great-grandchildren. He had a special bond with each of them. He was very close to his 10 nieces and nephews, Bob Ward, Pat Kilpatrick, both of Limestone, Wendell Coffin of Mapleton, Don Waddell, Darlene Nelder, both of Presque Isle, Sharon Feuhrer of Peacham, Vt., Dick Ward of Lewiston, Thomas Waddell of Plainville, Conn., Maxine Tuttle of Woodland Hills, Calif., Cheryl Feldtausch; several grand-nieces and grand-nephews. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the Mapleton Baptist Church, with the Rev. Kenneth Phelps officiating. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until time of service at the church.
