BREWER – Wayne Freeman Gray, 56, went to ride with the angels and to be with the Lord March 28, 2008, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Feb. 22, 1952, in Bangor, the son of Roy “Steel” and Mary (Thompson) Gray. Wayne grew up in Dedham, raised by his loving grandparents, Lester and Nellie Gray. He was educated in Dedham schools and attended Brewer High School. He always worked as a general laborer and was a past member of Laborers International Union Local No. 1377. One of life’s greatest joys for Wayne was volunteering his time each December to play Santa Claus for many local families and businesses, and helping Manna Ministries distribute food to needy families. Wayne’s greatest moments in life came while observing nature, especially eagles, riding motorcycles and going on bike runs with Mamie and his brothers of the Exiles M/C, of which he was a dedicated member for more than 30 years. His love of life and humor will be remembered by many, especially from the Exiles Winterport Drag Race event, where he was a DJ using his “Wolf Man Jack” voice. Wayne’s hope was for the many children whose lives he touched to remember his caring ways and carry on his legacy of life: live well, love much and laugh often. Wayne said the only time you are really dead is when you are forgotten. Remember me. E.F.F.E. Surviving are his loving wife of 18 years, Mamie Marie (Boyce) Gray; mother-in-law, Jackie (King) Boyce; four brothers, Robert, Allen, Stephen and Scott; and one sister, Cheryl. He was predeceased by his parents, grandparents; and father-in-law, Philip “Curly O’Brien” Boyce. A service of remembrance to celebrate Wayne’s life will be announced and held at a later date. Arrangements by Memorial Alternatives, 205 Center St., Bangor.
